Dear Editor,
The Windham Public Safety Day Committee would like to
thank the Windham families, community leaders and other guests who came to
Windham’s first-ever Public Safety Day last Saturday. The event was held from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building on Gray Road. We had a great turnout
out and the weather held - a nice bonus!
At the AARP Maine shredding event, 4,500 pounds of
sensitive documents were shredded and are now safely out of the hands of
identity thieves. The Windham Food Pantry received many boxes of donations of
food and supplies, plus the Windham Police Department collected unwanted
medications for safe disposal.
The Windham Fire
Department gave away smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and provided hands-on
educational opportunities on fire safety for residents of all ages.
We owe special thanks to all the volunteers, public
safety personnel, and the Windham Legislative Delegation for helping to educate
local families on fire safety awareness, police community programs, driver
safety and so much more. Their hard work resulted in a successful and enjoyable
day on Saturday and we appreciate the collaborative efforts of everyone
involved.
