Dear Editor - From Fred Collins, USMC

Dear Editor,

This is a story of creation, since the USMC’s birthday is coming up Thursday, November 10th, it’s only fitting that they get some recognition, misguided as it is. In the beginning was the word, and the word was God. God created the heavens and earth, land and sea. He created sailors and dressed them accordingly, soldiers and their many badges, emblems of all sorts.

On the sixth day, God thought about creating some air creatures which he designed uniforms such as the greyhound drivers, but discarded this idea the first week, until years later on the seventh day, as you know God rested, but on the eighth day at 5:30, God looked upon the Earth and was not happy! So he thought about his labors, and in his divine wisdom God created a divine creature. And this he called Marine. And the Marine who God created in his own image, were to be of air, and of land and sea.

And these he gave many wonderful uniforms. Some were green, some blue with red trim. In early days, some were even a beautiful tan. He gave them practical fighting uniform, so they could wage war against the forces of Stan and evil. He gave them evening dress uniforms…stylish and sharp. He also gave them swords, so if people were not impressed, they could be dealt with accordingly. At the end of the eighth day, God looked down upon the Earth and saw it was good, but was God happy?

No! Because I the course of his labors, he had forgotten one thing. He did not have a Marine uniform for himself. He thought about it and finally satisfied himself in knowing that, well…not everybody can be a Marine!
